I’ve spent the last five months writing one short story per week.
After listening to Ray Bradbury’s keynote address at the Writer’s Symposium by the Sea, I made a plan to write one short story every week for 52 weeks. 20 weeks in, I’m ready to add to my writing tasks.
I’m ready to write longer works of fiction. My current writing curriculum needs expanding. The way I see it, now is the perfect time to dive head first into a novel; it’s Spring—Summer is about one month away—and I have three solid months to complete my first draft of my first novel. It’s simultaneously exhilarating and terrifying, and that’s how I know I must make this shift into a higher gear.
What will remain the same?
I’ll still be posting weekly works of fiction here on thewriterwithacause.com and sent to your inbox each week. The weekly short stories remain in effect.
What will change?
Daily updates! I will post a daily writing log to the WriterWithACause YouTube channel. Why?
- For the sake of sharing an aspiring author’s (me) writing process while I’m still in the discovery phase of my writing abilities, drives, and desires.
- Keep me honest with myself regarding daily word counts and time spent actually writing.
- To create a learning resource that’s both self-reflective and (hopefully) helpful to others.
- It will be a cool document to look back on.
The Plan & The Goals
To write at least 60,000 words (a completed novel) between the 19th of May 2026, and the 16th of August 2026. However, my daily writing goal is 2,000 words per day therefore I should end up with 180,000 words at the end of 90 days.
Join Me!
Do you have a writing project you’ve been procrastinating on? Maybe your first novel… perhaps, a short story…? Then join me in this writing odyssey! Let’s keep each other accountable in the comments. Let me know your word count for the day, what went well, and what you want to improve for the future, as well as anything else you wish to share.
Just because writing is often a solitary endeavor doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy discussing our writing ambitions with each other.
I’ll post each writing log by Noon the following day. For example: the log posted on Thursday May 21st documents Wednesday May 20th, 2026, and so on and so forth.
Hope to see you in the comments!
Happy reading and writing 🖋️
